Mr Andrew Johnson - Chairman
Andrew Johnson is currently Managing Partner of Delta Systems International, which provides business and engineering strategy and design, and a prime contractor, focused on high technology communications and defence projects in Australia and internationally.
Prior to this, he has held the following high profile positions – Managing Director of Telstra’s Data and Online Division; CEO of Tenix Defence Systems (TDS); Director of Computer Sciences Corporation’s Australian and NZ, Defence and Communications Division; and Engineering Director of the RAN Submarine Warfare System Centre.
He has achieved the status of Fellow of both the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. He was a recipient of the Centenary Medal for services to Australia on major national projects. He has a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of WA. He is a member of the Victorian Defence Council.
Mr David Van Oppen - Director
Mr Van Oppen serves on the Investment Committee and boards of companies invested by GEMS. He has over 20 years investment experience across industries in Asia, including telecommunications in Hong Kong, Japan, India, Indonesia and the Pacific.
Prior to joining GEMS, Mr Van Oppen was responsible for principal investments at Lazard, where he managed the Hong Kong office and participated in private equity investments throughout Asia. He also worked at Smith Barney (now Citibank) on private placements, initial public offerings and mergers and acquisitions. Mr Van Oppen received a M.A. degree from The Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. degree from Pomona College.
Mr Sherwin Pu - Director
Sherwin Pu is a principal investment specialist in the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He has 20 years of experience in infrastructure investment and lending in the emerging markets in the Asia Pacific Region. Currently, he leads the bank’s infrastructure private equity business in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific, and also manages ADB’s non-sovereign infrastructure asset portfolio in the same territory. He is based in ADB’s headquarters in Manila, Philippines.
Prior to joining ADB in 2003, Sherwin was head of energy, chemical, and pharmaceutical for China in ABN AMRO. Prior to ABN AMRO, he was working in various capacities for international financial institutions. Sherwin received his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and an undergraduate double degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China.
